After eight years of marriage, two children and a rumor-filled summer, Madonna, 50, and British film director Guy Ritchie, 40, called it quits. The couple spent the last year denying any split, which was fueled by the pop star's relationship with New York Yankees player Alex Rodriquez.
Rumors began to surface of the couple's potential uncoupling in January 2007. By the beginning of summer, Madonna was denying an affair with Rodriquez, whose wife, Cynthia, filed for divorce, alleging her husband and the pop star were having an emotional affair.
In September, Madonna released a statement announcing the couple planned to divorce. She recently agreed to give her husband $76 million and a country estate as part of their property settlement agreement.
The couple will share custody of their two sons, Rocco, who was born several months before they married, and David Banda, a Malawian boy they adopted two years ago. Madonna's daughter, Lourdes, 12, from a previous relationship with fitness instructor Carlos Leon, will live in the United States with her mother.
