Christie Brinkley is divorcing her husband, Peter Cook. A celebrity divorce isn't necessarily news, but a celebrity who wants their trial open to the media is.
Cook's attorney says that this puts Brinkley's ability as a mother in question. He believes that a good parent, like his client, would want to shield their children from the media spotlight. Cook has a lot to lose in an open trial; he's been accused of an ongoing affair with an 18 year old assistant. There's no telling what the two sons know; unless Christie gets her way. Then that will be made public.
Christie tells the press this request runs against her normal persona. "I've always hoped to be able to solve this matter privately, outside the courtroom, and I continue to hope that that will be the case." In other words, settle out of court and keep your privacy.
