Would You Wait Until After Tax Season to File for a Divorce?

Most people hate tax season because it's the time of year Uncle Sam sticks his hand in their pocket and takes a large chunk of their income.According to a Chicago divorce lawyer Beverly Pekala, there are other reasons to fear tax season as well.

Beverly says that tax season is the time most people take stock on what their spouses actually make so that they can gauge that against a divorce. "Usually, it's the non-working spouse who goes to a lawyer and may not really know that much about their finances," Pekala says. "A quick snapshot is to just look at last year's tax return."
 
It doesn't mean you should be paranoid if your spouse is peering over your shoulder as you prepair the tax forms.  It's acutally a good idea for couples to know what they make as a family.  It can help keep down spending.  But if your spouse normally doesn't car and is suddenly taking a special interest, you might start asking questions.
