Rob on Tour?

Hey! Guess what? Right now It's vacation planning time at my work. That's right! I have to figure out what I want to do next year right now. Last year I wanted to do a Fall thing for my vacation but just going and seeing, didn't seem to match the price and other logistics. So this year I thought a little more about it, and I think I've got an idea.

I'm going to a music festival! Which one? Well that's where you come in. I can really only afford one, so I'm going to turn in 3 or 4 choices as vacation dates and see which one my seniority in date picking allows. I'm looking for ideas (and the dates if you know them). I'm already considering Bumbershoot and SXSW so far. I'm NOT going to Coachella, it's 20 minutes down the freeway, that's not a vacation, and it's only fun if I have somebody to go with.

So my fickle friends of fate, help me! You participate and you can join in the fun! That's right, wherever I go, you just buy your own plane and venue tickets and you're welcome to come too!

Cuz where would I be without you? I'd be right here typing...

Ok, vacation update: It's official, I'm going to Bumbershoot. SXSW was taken in the first round and I didn't get the other dates, so Bumbershoot it is...

Actually, I just submitted the dates. We'll see what happens. I'm not going to SXSW--somebody else already got that week. I'll let you know when I know!

ROFL! Duly noted Liz! I do have a concern about that one, only because it's on Labor day, isn't it? At least that's what I've been told. If so That's a really tough week for me to get off. I'd have to kill two people off before I got it, and then I think we all know where I'd be spending my vacation then...

That's actually why I came up with this "Wheel of Fortune" plan. But I am thinking that Bumbershoot will be on the final list. I just need 2 or three more...

Ok well if it were up to me I'd be sending you to Chicago -

there are several great music festivals there -

Now taste of chicago combines food and music - it goes for 1o days and not only can you see the performances, stuff yourself until you are sick - but you are also close by to all of the other attractions chilcago has to offer, museums, aquaruims, etc...it's inthe summer and coincides with 4th of july.

if you want a mix of absolutely everything musicwise there is the chicago world music festival - in 2009 it will be sometime in September, not sure if the dates have been nailed down yet - here is the website for archive info.

Or there is the Chicago blues festival - it will be sometime in June and sometimes overlaps with the taste of chicago.

The reason you may not have heard of them, is because they're location based, as opposed to traveling shows, like Lollapalooza.

LOL! Madymom! Somebody gives me a good beach one and so am I! I'd never heard of Bumbershoot either but a friend took pictures of bands and stuff there, and it looked cool. SXSW is shorthand for South by Southwest. It's a huge show for new and upandcoming bands. Coachella is in the desert just outside Palm Springs. It's also huge. It's always got great bands, but the time of year is usually really hot.

I've never heard of Bumbershoot, SXSW, or Coachella....guess I am far out of the loop nowadays. But if you pick one near a beach---I'm there!!
