Palestine
now has something that only the Sudan has among all the Muslim nations. They
now have two women judges.
In
a culture who's law looks down on women, and favors men in almost every
venture,
Khuloud
Faqih, 34, and Asmahan Wuheidi, 31 have stepped in, hoping to offer women legal
empathy where they never had it before.
Although
they can't change the law that is written with male bias, they can offer women
a court of comfort and security. When it comes to matters of divorce, some
women will tell a female judge things that they wouldn't tell a man.
"Where
I can make decisions that help women obtain better rights, I will," Faqih
said.
