Is Domestic Violence a Divorce Gimmick?

A Conway, New Hampshire city councilman expressed that women use domestic abuse as a divorce "gimmick."

Selectman Crow Dickinson was speaking before the Conway city council when he made the comment. He was addressing a recent motion before council to grant $7,500 to the Starting Point Agency.  A group who provide support for women of domestic violence. The grant was voted down 4 to 1.

County Attorney Robin Gordon said that the comment was a blatant example of Neanderthal thinking.

What a joke! I'm not saying hateful witches won't use anything they can get their hands on to manipulate the divorce, I've seen it happen to a friend who's ex was so terrified of him, she refuses to meet him anywhere but at the police station to trade the kids back and forth.

But he also used to live fifteen feet away from her while she was bringing men into what used to be their house and never laid a hand on her. Didn't even hurt her when one of the men she brought in, hurt one of his girls. Whatever.

An evil person will pull out every stop they can, but for this idiot to say that? I could have used it in my divorce but didn't. What a load of dukey.

Let's see here...STBX filed a Temporary Restraining Order against me for the following reason:

1.  That I was stalking her, and she was afraid for her life and the life of our son.

However, in the TRO she still wanted me to have him the following weekend and to have curbside drop-off at her house.  AT HER HOUSE.

Needless to say, the TRO was thrown out the next week when we went to court.

Now, can allegations of abuse be used as a weapon, especially by women?  Seeing that over 70% of TRO's brought by women in the State of Colorado are overturned...my answer would be YES.

It most definitely is used as a "weapon" in divorce! My "ex" filed false charges against me and the judge wouldn't even let me defend myself! He extended the injunction for one full year based on her accusations alone!

A week before there was a domestic violence incident that came out of his court room and there was no way in the world that he wasn't going to grant it! $5,000+ later, I'm still trying to clear my name...

What F'en bullshit that domestic violence is a divorce gimmick. O my God, that is the stupidest thing I have heard yet about divorce. How would this councilman feel if he was the one with the black eyes, bruises and broken bones living in fear of the next beating? Would he say the same stupid thing then? I know first hand about this. Women are more often the victim of the abuse, but men get it to. Either way, it's a tragic truth about marriage and divorce and not a gimmick. This councilman is a jackass!

Ignorance like this is exactly what keeps abusive men safe and abused women vulnerable and alone and helpless and abused................

you better be careful how you promote media information about domestivc violence.

This is coming directly from a woman who currently is trapped in a marrage with her abuser because she has been completely disabled by her abusive husband.   Yes there are oportunists that use DV, hardship, disability, Religion .you name it as a scam tool.those are the scum of the earth..................

we dont need to help them ...................

we need to help the ones that aren't lying...............the real victims

lets try that huh?................

maybe a little less ignorance.............will help the whole world , right now ,TODAY.............

Thats right I'm Back
happy easter................

and dont tread on ME

peace out

It is true that SOME women have used DV as a weapon before, but by and large, it is quite the rampant problem!!  Just love to keep seeing governments like Conway ignore what has been happening for so long.
