Should State Enforce Class for Divorcing Parents? 

 

Texas is considering a bill that would require divorcing couples with dependant children, filing for a no fault divorce to take a 10 hour divorce crisis class. The cost of the class would fall on the divorcing couple. The "marriage education courses" could cost as much as $200 per hour.

 

According to Rep. Warren Chisum, "Having children raised with a mother and father is the desire of my heart, to make that happen. We can save emotional heartache by keeping them together."

 

Advocates against domestic violence are worried about what would result from forcing the couple to spend extra time together.

What about couples that don't have that kind of money? If they have a program that is affordable why not? If anything maybe the couples will learn to communicate with each other.
