First
it was the housing crunch hitting divorcing couples, forcing them to live
together longer or take serious hits to their equity. Now a new problem is
arising. Employed spouses are having difficulty making alimony and child
support payments.
The
recent downturn in the economy has eliminated extra funds for things like
bonuses and raises, and commission based employees are feeling the sting as
well. With less money coming in, they're finding it harder to make payments
that were based on happier financial times.
Many
are returning to court, but courts are expected to be unsympathetic. So what's
next for the spouses finding themselves with less money to make ends meet? Will
bankers and CEOs start working the Drive thru at McDonalds just to pay Alimony,
or will we see a new rush of Deadbeat Dads?
